Start on a Windows PC. Keep this page open on your phone while using the Roku remote.

Before starting: installing FilmDeck replaces any other sideloaded developer app on this Roku. Normal Channel Store apps stay untouched.

Download and open the setup

  1. Click Download Roku setup above and save the ZIP.
  2. Right-click the ZIP, choose Extract All, then open the extracted folder.
  3. Double-click Start-Setup.cmd. Windows may ask you to confirm a downloaded script. The readable PowerShell file is included beside it.

Keep the extracted folder together. The helper verifies the FilmDeck app before it can upload anything.

Open Roku Developer Mode

  1. On the Roku remote, press Home 3 times, Up 2 times, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right.
  2. The Developer Settings screen appears. Write down the IP address shown on the TV.
  3. Select Enable installer and restart. Read and accept Roku's Developer Tools License Agreement.

If the screen does not appear, return to the Roku Home screen and enter the sequence steadily.

Create the Roku developer password

  1. After the restart, enter a password on the TV when Roku asks.
  2. Remember the exact capitalization. The username is always rokudev.
  3. Wait for the Roku Home screen to return.

This password stays on your Roku. FilmDeck's helper uses it for one local upload and does not save it.

Connect the Windows helper

  1. Enter the Roku IP from the TV, such as 192.168.1.50.
  2. Enter the developer password you created.
  3. Choose Install FilmDeck. Keep the Roku and PC on the same home network while it uploads.

Guest Wi-Fi often blocks devices from seeing one another. Use the main home network on both devices.

Let FilmDeck launch

  1. The helper reports Install Success.
  2. FilmDeck opens automatically on the TV. If it does not, open the FilmDeck developer channel from Roku Home.
  3. Create or choose a profile. Each profile keeps its own viewing progress and recommendations.

Roku permits one sideloaded developer app at a time. Installing another developer ZIP later replaces FilmDeck.

Test one film and one episode

  1. Open a film and press Play. Confirm picture and sound.
  2. Open a series. Seasons and episodes appear directly on the details screen.
  3. Play part of an episode, go back, then confirm its progress bar appears.

Setup is finished. The PC can disconnect or shut down.

Install manually in a browser
  1. On the Windows PC, open http://YOUR_ROKU_IP.
  2. Sign in with username rokudev and your developer password.
  3. Choose Upload, select FilmDeck.zip from the extracted download, then choose Install.

What is inside the download?

The ZIP contains the native Roku app, a readable Windows setup helper, this guide for offline use, and SHA-256 checksums. It contains no account, API key, stored password, remote access tool, or background service.

Updates, profiles, and removal

FilmDeck checks this release page when it opens and shows an update notice when a newer version is ready. On your Windows PC, run the current setup helper. It downloads and verifies the latest Roku app, then installs it through Roku's developer installer. If your extracted helper came from version 1.3.0 or earlier, download the current setup ZIP from this page first. Do not uninstall first. An ordinary replacement keeps Roku registry data, including profiles and progress. A factory reset, app deletion, or Developer Mode reset may remove it.

To remove FilmDeck, install another developer app or use Roku's developer installer. Channel Store apps are separate.

Which Roku devices work?

The app is built for Roku OS televisions and streaming players that allow Developer Mode. Older or low-memory models may browse more slowly. Playback also depends on the source format and the Roku model's codec support.
